LETTER FROM THE SECRETARY-GENERAL
Dear delegates, sponsors, and friends of wmidmun,
Over the last 23 years, WMIDMUN has provided a unique educational experience for middle schoolers, and I am excited to invite you back to historic Williamsburg, VA, for another exciting chapter in our conference’s history.
With our emphasis on learning, our goal has always been to encourage delegates to step out of their comfort zone, whether that be learning about a new topic, speaking up in committee, collaborating with other delegates, or drafting up clauses. There is a place for every delegate at WMIDMUN, and every delegate will have the chance to be challenged in some way.
WMIDMUN prides itself on its diverse committees that capture history while reflecting the diverse experiences and perspectives that form the patchwork of our global community. My hope is that upon leaving the conference, everyone involved will have a renewed interest in learning, improving on one’s weaknesses, and engaging with complex global issues.
Over the next several months, I encourage you to check our website and social media for updates and information as the conference comes to life. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any Secretariat member. I’m looking forward to welcoming you all to WMIDMUN XXIII at the end of February in Williamsburg for another weekend of learning, diplomacy, and fun!
Sincerely,
Hannah Ray
Secretary-General of WMIDMUN XXIII
Service
Every year, the International Relations Club at William & Mary supports different international non-governmental organizations, advocacy groups, or philanthropy. In efforts recognized by Best Delegate’s “Best College Model UN Organizations, Leaders, Projects, and Administration 2021-22”, we focus not only on monetary contributions itself, but also on raising awareness and highlighting overlooked international social problems.
For this 2024-2025 academic year, the IRC@WM is proud to support the Avalon Center, a regional non-profit organization working to end sexual and domestic violence by breaking the cycle of abuse. The service branch of the IRC, called IRCares, will lead several initiatives throughout the conference weekend so you too can support the Avalon Center if you feel moved to do so.
More information on the incredible work done by the Avalon Center can be found here on their website and more information about IRCares can be directed to our Service Chair Lauren Creed (service@wmirc.org)
Land Acknowledgment
WMIDMUN would like to emphasize the ownership of the land on which our campus operates. William & Mary acknowledges the Indigenous peoples who are the original inhabitants of the lands our campus is on today – the Cheroenhaka (Nottoway), Chickahominy, Eastern Chickahominy, Mattaponi, Monacan, Nansemond, Nottoway, Pamunkey, Patawomeck, Upper Mattaponi, and Rappahannock tribes – and pay our respect to their tribal members past and present.
