Lost Colony of Roanoke
In the late 16th century, England established a settlement on Roanoke Island off the coast of present-day NC. This colony, aptly named Roanoke, mysteriously vanished within a few years, leaving behind only the word “CROATOAN” carved into a post. Historians have debated its fate for centuries.
This committee is set in 1587. A war between England and Spain has broken out and winter is approaching. The colony finds itself facing dwindling supplies, increasingly harsh conditions and rising tensions with nearby Indigenous nations. As contact with England becomes uncertain and leadership weakens, delegates must make critical decisions to ensure the survival of the colony. How can leaders maintain morale and order within the colony under stress? Can colonists and Indigenous nations use diplomacy to build alliances and share resources? Can the colony manage its limited resources? Should the colony relocate or wait for reinforcements? As winter approaches, delegates must work together to ensure the survival of the colony or be lost to history forever.
Alliance of Small Island States: Climate Crisis
The Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) emerged in the late 1980s as a collective voice for nations whose very existence is threatened by rising sea levels and a warming planet. Representing over 40 islands and low-lying coastal countries, AOSIS has tirelessly advocated for stronger international action on climate change, long before the issue captured global headlines. Delegates will navigate a world where every decision on carbon emissions, climate finance, and disaster preparedness can mean the difference between survival and displacement. Through historical debates, negotiations, and urgent appeals, delegates will face challenges and summon a sense of resilience to fight against a crisis that knows no borders.
