Special political and decolonization committee

The United Nations General Assembly Fourth Committee, or the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL) is one of the six main organs of the United Nations General Assembly. The committee has many responsibilities, including peacekeeping and political oversight. PECPOL facilitates discussion and debate on the sixteen disputed territories that are classified as “Non-Self-Governing Territories.” Although it has largely focused on Middle Eastern affairs in recent years, the committee deals with a diverse and dynamic set of issues. Delegates will confront the consequences of colonialism and collaborate to help nations achieve the United Nations’ fundamental right to self-determination.
