I Must Tell You A Secret: US Situation Room, U-2 Incident

1960. The Cold War. Two powers dominate the globe, competing for ideology and regime. Both nations conducted espionage and information warfare against the other to gain a decisive advantage, hopefully while avoiding nuclear war. The espionage program of the US Central Intelligence Agency included several surveillance missions of high-altitude planes, equipped with very powerful cameras. For a time, the Soviet Union had no method of countering this new technology. However, in May, the CIA U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers was shot down over Soviet airspace. He was captured by the USSR, the burden falling to the United States to preserve the tense peace, protect state secrets, and bring Powers home.
