United Nations Security Council (UNSC)

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations (UN). The UNSC’s role in ensuring international collective security is outlined by the UN Charter. The charter authorizes the UNSC to investigate threats to international peace, suggest procedures for peaceful, expedient resolutions of disputes, implore member states to partially or completely disrupt economic activity and foreign communications, cut diplomatic ties, and enforce military decisions. The UNSC is the only UN organization with the power to issue binding resolutions on its member states. Although controversial, the UN Charter vests the UNSC with all three legislative, executive, and judicial powers.
